The team made the long journey South for the last rounds of the 2017 Porsche Club Championship. Representing the team where father and son duo Peter Morris in the PCM Midlands Porsche 966 class one car and Ross Morris in the PCM Midlands class two Porsche Boxster S.
Qualifying did not go to plan for Pete Morris who was setting good lap times during Thursdays test day but opted to change tyres for the race that unfortunately resulted in Morris being off the pace a little qualifying down the order in seventh place. Ross Morris was also setting good times in qualifying but while pushing for pole spun out hitting the barriers hard and causing too much damage to enable the team to fix it for the races.
Despite a decent start from Morris the rest of the field also did well on the start and so the order on the grid remained the same for the first laps. The leading three cars soon pulled away leaving Higgins, Price and Morris all battling for fourth place, Morris moved up to fifth after Price spun out but penalties where issued out after the finish to all three drivers for exceeding track limits leaving Morris in seventh place.
And so it came down to the last race, the battle for the championship heated up in front with Sumpter in first place and McAleer in third behind Wilkins, Morris had managed to move up into fourth place but was having to defend hard from Higgins right behind him. Up front Sumpter lost the lead after spinning allowing Wlikins to take the win with Mcaleer taking second and the championship. Sumpters spin also moved Morris up one place into third but Morris had to work hard to keep the podium finish with pressure from Higgins and Sumpter. Morris finally crossed the finish line to bring home a trophy for the team on the final race of the season.
It’s was a Hard fought fight today in fact it’s been a hard fought year but we have had some good years I will not forget them but I will be back next year with the team.
My pace was strong I was pushing hard in qualifying but I pushed too hard and over cooked it going into the corner I feel a bit of a billy going off on my own, the damage only looked light but a broken steering rack put an end to the weekend for me, but I am looking forward to racing next year.
