Morris keeps champonship alive with two podium finishes

Race One

Pete Morris in the Strasse 996 was eager to beat Bradshaw and Slater who qualified ahead of Morris for race one Bradshaw held on to lead with Slater in position two heading into the first corner followed by Sumpter and then Morris who had lost a place on the first lap, close behind the leading five cars was the 993C of Richard Ellis in sixth place. David Botterill in the 964 C2 had made a fantastic start taking five places up to seventh also moving ahead of Team mate Chris Dyer in the Cayman S who had slotted into eighth place.

Bradshaw was continuing to lap quickly and was soon putting a gap between the chasing pack, but a mistake from Slater saw Sumpter take second and Morris capitalised on the same mistake manoeuvring his Strasse 996 on inside of Slater along the pit straight to take third and set off after Sumpter.

Dyer was eager to take back the places he had lost in the opening laps and was looking strong until a mistake resulted in Dyer hitting the back Cheetman resulting in a busted radiator and forcing him to retire the Cayman S. With first place looking impossible to chase it was the second place that became the main battle and Morris was looking for a way past Sumpter and soon found an opening heading into Redgate getting a better exit from the chicane passing Sumpter to take second on lap 15.

Richard Ellis was battling hard to take fourth place of Slater but as unable to find a way pass crossing the finishing line in fifth place. Bradshaw had a commanding lead taking first place with Morris taking second after easing clear of Sumpter, David Bottereill who had started from twelfth place had put in a strong performance to take seventh place.

In Class two Andy Toon in the Strasse 968 CS fished in fourth place, Toon had worked through the filed into a comfortable second place and was looking good for a first place challenge but he was tapped from behind forcing him off and re-joining the filed back in fourth. Hugo Holmes in the second 968 CS Strasse class two car put in strong performance and battled hard among the class two pack. Holmes fought hard throughout the race exchanging paint work with Higgins during the race eventually crossing the line eighth in class.

Race Two

The team worked to replace the radiator along with some patching up to the bodywork on Dyers Cayman during the break ready for race two. Has the cars lined up for the green light the clutch was starting go on Bradshaw’s 996 and when the lights went green he soon found himself several rows behind allowing Morris to take the lead with Sumpter and Slater following. Ellis was in fifth place with Dyer in seventh, Botterhill was again showing that his car had the pace following in 11th spot.

Morris soon opened a five second gap but had to give up the commanding lead as the Safety Car came out at the end of lap three with a car off the circuit at Coppice, once the field was released Morris found himself under pressure from Sumpter right away with Bradshaw quickly coming back through the pack into fourth. Morris was pushing hard to keep the lead and set fastest race lap, but Bradshaw responded with a quickest lap of his own and was soon on the tail pipes of Morris.

Morris and Bradshaw where both trading fastest laps but Bradshaw came out the victor and took his second win of the day with Morris taking second place again. Ellis took fifth after an entertaining battle with Slater. Botterhill and team mate Dyer also put on a show battling with each other along with Mccullagh entertaining the crowd three abreast but it was Botterhill who won the three car challenge taking seventh with Dyer taking 9th. In class two Andy Toon worked hard and took a well-earned third place podium finish adding to the teams commanding Championship lead, Hugo Holmes crossed the line to take sixth place.

Peter Morris

What’s good about today is I kept up with Bradshaw for a change and we both got to race each other both cars where on par, he got the best of me on both races but I pushed him all the way and I am still leading the championship so it’s going well, happy days.

Andy Toon

We made some good points for the team, I was disappointed with the first race, I knew it was going to tight and it was all going to plan but I got punted off, that dropped me down to fourth when I should have been challenging for first. The second race a got a good start but it was frantic so I was trying to keep everything clean we were swapping places during the race and we crossed the finish line almost side by side for second and third

Richard Ellis

The first race went to plan I had some good battles, I got a good start and managed to keep up with the front cars but in the end I had to concentrate in defending my place from the cars behind. The second race was pretty much the same and the safety car bunched up the field, I had a good battle with Slatter but managed to keep him behind me.

Chris Dyer

I got a good start during race one but about six laps in a tapped the front of the car that resulted in a DNF. I got a good start again in race two but I had an issue with the brakes feeling a little hard so I had to brake a lot early. I had some good battles but I was not able to fend off the cars behind me with the problem I was having with the brakes In all a good day just a shame about the brake issues.

David Botterhill

It's gone well today, we had a new engine rebuilt after the fire at Silverstone we also have made a few adjustments, the car felt good, new tyres we were on the power and pace, I had some good battles with Chris and john we were trading places and the car felt good.

Hugo Holmes

It was a really good day I lost the ABS during qualifying but we got it fixed for race one it was a great race but the old slicks did not help and I lost a few places, we put new slicks on for race two but we need to adjust the suspension again so we need to get back to Strasse and make a few adjustments, but we had some good racing today.
