Team Strasse returns to podium at Silverstone

With every point counting to enable the team to take back the team championship trophy the team hustled at Silverstone where they strung together two podium efforts – a third and second place finish. Both Pete Morris and Chris Dyer drove a controlled race while the team executed one of their fastest repairs of the season to Dyers race one damaged car.

Fresh from podiums at Donington the team kept the momentum going by laying down fast times and achieving good grid positions during the short qualifying session on the international circuit at Silverstone with Dyer achieving Fifth, Morris sixth and Toon in Seventh. In class two Ed Grimshaw qualified sixth in class.

Race one

Unfortunately, the start of the race wasn’t exactly what the team was looking for. At the green flag the push was on and the front runners got boxed in heading into turn one, contact was made between Dyer and pole sitter Sumpter resulting in heavy damage to both cars forcing both cars to retire. By the end of lap one Morris was up into third with toon in fifth. The front two runners soon pulled away after leaving the battle for third between Morris, Price and Toon, a few laps later second placed Clark ran into difficulties and soon after retired promoting Morris up into second. Toon now in fourth was accelerating at full throttle and was trying to find a way past price to take third place who was respectively putting Morris under pressure for second. The battle continued for several laps with Morris holding on to second with Toon taking third almost side-by-side with Price. In class two Ed Grimshaw put in a strong performance taking fifth in class.

Race two

The pit crew had to work hard to fix the front end damage to Dyers car but the crew have not faulted once this season and had Dyers car ready and fit to roll well in time for race two. The second race all went to plan with Dyer making a blistering start and slotting into third, Morris was up into fifth behind Price with Toon in sixth place. Backmarkers played a key role for the front leaders who managed to get passed them before Dyer was held up, this allowed the leading two to obtain a gap leaving a gripping battle for third with Dyer leading the pack. The battle continued throughout the whole race with tyres starting to lose grip and drivers all having to work hard, any mistake at this point would result in losing a place, despite the strong competition Dyer held onto third with Morris taking Fifth and Toon sixth all collating valuable points for the team. Class two driver Grimshaw finished sixth in class.

Pete Morris PCM Midlands Porsche 997 C2S: Good team points today, I had to work hard for second place in race one. The second race all four of us had a great race I kept up with Chris for most of the race but Chris was on fresher tyres. The car is still too heavy and Toony was right behind us too, he has his pace back now once he gets the bit between his teeth he will probably take a few lunges.

Chris Dyer Professional / Millers Oil Cayman S: I qualified fourth on the grid and I was really happy with that, the first race I should have backed off going into the first corner it was a decision that resulted in a collision, it was my own fault really. The second race I had a great start and was up into third I had kept Price behind me I managed to pull away from him at the end, it was all about damage limitation and gaining points for the team.

Andy Toon EPC Electrolytic Plating Porsche 996 C2: A great day I felt comfortable with the car today it was a good representation. We made some adjustments for the race after qualifying on the suspension and  the car felt well planted. I was there with the leading pack just a shame it did not end with a podium.

Ed Grimshaw Regal Blinds and Curtains Boxster S: I enjoyed it today, the weather let testing down on Friday. Race one I got a really good start and made up a couple of places but I lost them again during the race. Race two I felt a lot more comfortable I know I still finished in sixth place but it’s all about getting seat time in now.
